The name Gatteo a Mare appeared for the first time seventy years ago, as the maritime side of Gatteo has always been known as “Due Bocche”. Gatteo’s town has Roman origins and is bordered to the south by the “Rubicone” river, that was made famous been crossing by Julius Caesar, commander in chief of the roman army.
