Cesenatico, one of the most requested turistical locality of the Adriatic Sea, has very ancient origins, probably dating from the fifth century B.C. His name, however, was coined in 1314 following the establishment of a port for Cesena. The city of Savio, in fact, needed at all costs of a port for commercial and expansionist reason, and after several failed attempts to wrest the dominion of Ravenna’s lordships over Cervia, they decided to build a brand new port right in the present area. Cesenatico went to meet various difficulties, and was destroyed and rebuilt again several times because of the struggles between the various local lordships. After this troubled period, the port experienced an irresistible rise which was culminated in 1842 with the conquest of local independency and with the triumphal entry into the city of the national hero Giuseppe Garibaldi 7 years later.

After the second World War Cesenatico has become a touristic center, renewed year after year. Cesenatico is famous for its harbor, which has been designed by Leonardo among other things and houses the floating maritime museum where are keeped 10 traditional boats of the Adriatic. From the harbor, also depart daily hydrofoils to Croatia, while on the pier there are many restaurants with seafood specialities as well gatherings for young people. The seaside town, in fact, teaming with street bars, clubs and beach parties: the most famous beach-club is “Batija”, but worth a mention also the “Sloopy Joe`s” and the “Molo 95”. Always full of fun, the water park “Atlantica of Cesenatico”, is a favorite destination for young people and children, second-in-kind only to the famed “Aquafan”. To confirm the origin of the town`s seafaring, the small square of “Conserve”, where old wells were used as fridge to preserve, as the name indicates, the fish. Another place of historical interest is the museum in its old home-site-dedicated to Marino Moretti, avant-garde poet of the early 1900s. On the waterfront Cesenatico addition, you can see many beautiful colonial nineteenth century, a true artistic heritage of the locality. 

Cesenatico annually hosts the "Nove Colli", the famous bicycle race for professionals and amateurs dedicated to the unforgettable Marco Pantani, and is the starting point of many cycling paths. Cycling, of course, is not the only sport activity practised there. Beach soccer, beach tennis, beach volleyball, basketball, table tennis are just some of them, not forgetting the fitness, the swimming lessons and much more. But the beach is also synonymous with relaxation: bathing establishments, in fact, are equipped in this regard.
